MISSION STATEMENT |
Renaissance in Motion is a non-profit cultural organization that provides access to Harlem's diverse artistic and intellectual scene through salons, lectures and concerts held in Harlem for people in the New York Metropolitan area. All of the proceeds that we make will provide outstanding Harlem students with college scholarships for the arts or education. All students will begin at SUNY Westchester Community College before they go on to a four-year college, and they will be provided with a mentor for their first four years of college. RENAISSANCE IN MOTION's events and lectures range from poetry readings with music and lectures about the Harlem Renaissance to wine tastings. |
THE ORGANIZATION |
Renaissance in Motion was founded in 2003 by Michael John Downie, Professor of English & American Literature and Creative Writing at SUNY Westchester Community College, and Katrin Zimmermann, a jewelry designer and member of the CFDA. They live and hold salons and concerts in their brownstone in the Mount Morris section of Harlem. Renaissance in Motion is a not-for-profit organization. We are in the process of receiving 501(c)3 status, at which point all your donations will be tax-deductible. All fees collected this year go towards the remuneration of lecturers and the cocktail parties. We much appreciate you supporting the cultural scene of this fascinating area by attending our events. Look out for our next invitation!
